My Books

What if 1 curious boy told you he saw 2 zebras in
goggles and flippers or 4 elephants packing their
trunks or 7 hippos playing musical chairs  . . .  would
           his story add up?

" . . . An array of further animal antics unfolds in bouncy verse (full of phonetic Seussian crunch) amid equally antic pictures
. . . Degman’s verse is bright—this text won the Cheerios New Author Contest—and animator Jack’s digitally produced creatures, both animal and human, are pleasingly Bill Peet–esque. Crackling good fun . . . "
                           ~ Kirkus

" . . .Degman’s giggle-inducing rhymes move this read-aloud story along . . . Kids will enjoy hearing the catchy rhymes read multiple times.  digital cartoon images, made to appear like hand-drawn ink sketches, capture the swift movement and playful mood.  Overall, this is a fun romp through the zoo."
                                                        ~ School Library Journal

My story, 1 ZANY ZOO, was the grand prize winner of the 2008 Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories Contest!  As part of the prize, my story was reviewed by Simon & Schuster and they offered to publish it as a picture book!  They have selected a wonderful illustrator, Colin Jack, to bring the story to life!

A mini version of the book was featured inside specially marked boxes of Cheerios in spring of 2010 and a hardcover was released July 20, 2010.

There's a Cow in the Kitchen and Company's Coming

When Mother's glasses break on the morning of Chloe's big birthday bash, she mistakenly calls the Dairy Made Farm instead of the Daily Maid Firm and a heiffer, not a helper, comes to her aid.

She ran to tell her mother,

"The maid came in just now,

There must have been a mix-up,

'Cause, Mom, the maid's a cow!"

"I don't have time to rude remarks,

I've chores up to my chin.

Just find a larger apron, dear,

And ask her to pitch in."

Cock-a-doodle Who?

When Farmer McPeeper's rooster leaves for a week a the beach, the other animals must do their best to wake him.

Unfortunately . . .

Farmer McPeeper's a very deep sleeper,

Not even an earthquake could shake him.

A poke or a pinch wouldn't budge him an inch,

'Cause only his rooster could wake him.

Still, they each give it their best shot:

"I know that I'm quiet, but I'd like to try it,

Here goes," said a shy, little sheep.

His cock-a-doodle-baaaa didn't travel too faaaa,

In fact, he made barely a peep.
